Ye’ Captain was busy with the landlubbin’ life; back to helm I say.
Also, it should be mentioned that I seemed to have received a few e-mails while I was away. Unfortunatly, they ended up in the spam box and were auto-deleted. If you have a comment i’m all ears.
I’ll try to update the log more often, but alas, the Captain’s Log is not his Ship, and the Ship needs much work as of right now.
I just received this message from the Bad Dudes. Once again, they have saved president Ronnie and will enjoy an olde fashioned American past-time. A hamburger.
I received this letter tonight. What a terrible event. Thankfully The Captain has contact with a few salty sea dog’s named the ‘Bad Dudes’. Hopefully these dudes can save the world.
I’ve put aside working on the code for a little, as it is an obvious tedious thing, and begun working on some sort of rudimentry image set to last for the time being. As always, you can see the progress by visiting game.whaleslayer.com.
The game is coming along as expected. I’ve been slowly going through and changing the major portion of the database entries to fit my needs. Once this is done work will commence on the front-end side of things.
Anyone visiting this site is probably interested about some info for my game. So here are some tidbits -
I’m using the Dragon Knight php core lib as a basis for the game’s coding. I’m going to have to heavily modify some stuff. Obviously besides a grand plot and setting change-up; the layout needs some work for my design.
The game will initially be infused with a cartoony art-style. This is not my ultimate goal. What I do want in the end is artwork similar to the epic painting done by Paul Romano (Which you can see all around you on this website)
The game will be epic. Whaling in the 1800’s is the semblance of this ‘Epic’ idea. It is something so awesome that it goes beyond description. This is my definition of Epic. If you want a full definition of ‘Epic’ go read Moby Dick. I want the game to have this feel.
As for the ‘gameplay’ itself; expect in the end more of a simulation and not a game. Whaling consists of more then just killing a massive fish. (Yes, a whale is a fish. For purposes of truism to Moby Dick and scientific opinion of the 1800’s) Whaling would not exsist if it were not for the multi-thousand dollar (This was a lot of money back then) economy attached to it. Expect an economy simulation, but also expect the fun that comes with navigating the sea’s and then indulging in one of the most physically epic acts a human being can come to do on the face of this Earth.
This is my vision. My ultimate ‘Hey Ma, I want to be an astronaught when I grow up’ goal is a game that could be best described as including my vision and with realistic graphics. Most likely using whatever the hell they have going on in Silent Hunter 4. Whenever a whale appears you will see and thus feel the feeling of ‘Epic’. The sea will turn into the most violent virtual recreation of a watery hell you could never imagine, and the struggle to take down the beast will be greater then climbing to the top of Mount Olympus and back.
